HESA Funding for ASHE – RSVP by Sept 15

It’s that time of year again…

HESA will be coordinating efforts with the Center for the Study of Higher Education to support student travel to the ASHE conference in Charlotte, NC. The dates of this year’s conference are November 16-19th. For more information see: http://www.ashe.ws/?page=728

HESA hopes to secure support from UPAC for conference registration fees and lodging costs. It is unlikely that the entire cost of attendance will be covered, but we all know that any little bit will help!

In order to be a part of HESA’s coordinated efforts to secure funding for lodging and conference registration fees, you must be a DUES PAYING member of HESA. Dues are $10 for first year students, $20 for everyone else.

If you think you would like to go to ASHE, please email Jess Bennett (jcb5416@psu.edu) by SEPTEMBER 15th. This RSVP is for our preliminary application for funding, and is not a binding commitment to attend the conference.

HESA wants YOU to get involved!

Dear Higher Ed Community – Your HESA executive committee seeks members at large to get involved! Below is a list of roles we are hoping to have filled, along with a brief description of what that role entails. If you like the sound of something, but are not sure about making a big commitment, be in touch anyway! Any little bit you can do helps us help you!

Professional Development Team: Plan events for doctoral and master’s students that focus on building professional skills (conference presentations, writing, job search processes, etc) working with HEPAC alumni, Higher Ed faculty and other Penn State resources.

Social Events Team: Help plan and execute the many social events HESA organizes: Bowling Challenge, Wine Tasting, Chili Cookoff, End of/Beginning of Semester Events, etc. Take on one event, or all of them!

EPS Department Faculty Meeting Representative: Represent HESA and Higher Ed students at the EPS faculty meeting. Report back to HESA on happenings at the departmental level. (First meeting this Friday, September 9th 10am!)

Historian/Photographer: Love to take snapshots at events? We’d love to have you be the official HESA photog. You’ll work with Communications Manager, Ya-Chi Hung, to publish photos and recaps of events on the HESA blog.

Spring Conference Coordinator: Help coordinate HESA’s efforts to send students to major professional conferences. Work with UPAC to request funding, identify other student groups with which to coordinate funding efforts, and identify key conferences that students might want to attend via community surveys.

Please email Jessica (jcb5416@psu.edu) if you’d like to be involved! Let her know which areas you are interested in helping out, or if you have other ideas about how you can contribute to HESA.
