The Higher Education Student Association is seeking two members to fill leadership roles that will report to the Executive Board. These positions seek to increase member participation and increase access to leadership opportunities for higher education students.
The World Campus Representative will report to the HESA Executive Board any ideas, concerns, questions, or simply the perspective of World Campus M.Ed. Students. Meetings will occur on a need-basis and can be conducted via Skype or on-campus. The WC Rep should be interested in representing the virtual study body and serving as a liaison with the goal of increasing participation and access to the Higher Education Student Association for World Campus students. This is a great position for a non-residential student to not only further their own participation in Penn State Student Organizations but grow the opportunities for other students. This opportunity is open to World Campus M.Ed. students only.
The HESA Executive Board is seeking a Project Leader for their Winter Charity Effort. The Project Leader will coordinate the charity drive (Toys for Tots, Adopt a Family, or Salvation Army) along side the HESA Executive Board. Innovative charity program proposals are welcomed. This is a great position for someone who seeks to become more involved in HESA without committing to a permanent leadership role. This opportunity is open to all HESA members.
Interested applicants should submit a statement of intent (1 page maximum) by Friday, October 30th to HESA President Maeghen MacDonald via email – firstname.lastname@example.org. Positions will be announced at the next HESA meeting on Tuesday, November 10th at 6:30pm.
Higher Ed students presented at the Education Policy Studies Research Symposium and won three out of five travel grants for their research presentations. Later that night, we had a potluck for newly admitted students hosted by Professor Liliana Garces.
HESA will be working with the American Red Cross to sponsor a blood drive on Thursday, May 1st. Click here to volunteer or donate!
Students interested in applying for grants to fund research to improve online learning are encouraged to attend the upcoming COIL Brownbag on Thursday, March 6th, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in 403 Rackley.

For this event, representatives from the Center for Online Innovation in Learning (COIL) will describe the center’s mission and vision related to online innovations in learning and engage student participants in a discussion on the intersections of student needs and COIL resources. A particular focus will be placed on the COIL research initiation grants (RIGs) and the potential roles for students in submitting and participating in RIG proposals and projects.
